Breaking Free from Habitual Limits: The Truth of Karma
Why the World Seems Unfair — And How Cause and Effect Perfectly Explains Everything
To the Buddhas, the True Dharma, and the Noble Sangha, the Three Jewels,
I take refuge from now until enlightenment forever.
With the merits accumulated through generosity and other practices,
For the benefit of all sentient beings, I aspire to attain great awakening.
🌿Quotation:
“retribution appears only when all necessary conditions are complete. ”
Main Text:
Those who can break through the limitations of their own habitual tendencies can accomplish anything; this is true and not false.
In this world, there is no universal fairness. Each being follows their own karmic causes and conditions. Good and evil causes and their corresponding fruits do not operate according to fairness.
Suffering is always the result of previous evil causes; happiness is always the result of previous good causes. There is not the slightest error or discrepancy.
There are two levels to understand this:First level:
What others see is not necessarily what the person involved actually experiences. Therefore, observe less what kind of retribution others appear to receive—you cannot truly know their situation.
Second level: The mechanism by which good and evil transform into retribution. The “unmanifested form” (avijñapti-rūpa) created by good and evil deeds cannot vanish into emptiness within the Dharma Realm. When the proper causes and conditions mature, it manifests as the corresponding retribution. Thus, retribution appears only when all necessary conditions are complete. If it has not yet appeared, it does not mean it does not exist—it simply means the conditions for its manifestation have not yet ripened.
The law of cause and effect across the three times (past, present, and future) can explain all apparent injustices in the world. The mundane world has no power to make causes and conditions manifest immediately for the sake of fairness. It is only because human minds have attachment, aversion, and self-interest that people pursue “justice” and “fairness.”
